Deal or No Deal?

I’m into this bargain grocery shopping thing now… it’s like an addiction, only this one saves money instead of sucking us dry.  Bonus!

While looking through today’s ads, I came across some “bargains” that aren’t what they seem…

Dollar Tree- boasts steaks for $1.00 each… fine print states that each is 1/4lb.  Deal, right?  WRONG.  That’s $4.00/lb for what I would call questionable quality meat.  Jump over to the Fred Meyer ad and you’ll find Beef Loin Petite Sirloin Steak for $2.88/lb (family pack).   Who wants meat at the Dollar Tree anyway?

Fred Meyer also has hamburger and hot dog buns for .39 each (first 2 so plan a couple trips to stock up), Hunts ketchup for .89/24 oz bottle and Quaker/Post cereals 2/$4.  (As a rule, I never pay more than $2.50 for a box of cereal except our Gluten Free ones which usually run $3.89+ unless Chex are on sale).  If you are in need of deoderant… Speed Stick (men and women) is just .99 after $1.00 in store manufacturer coupon.

Haggen- 3 for 1 Idaho Potatoes 5 lb bag… $2.79 for 15 lbs.  Deal?  You bet. Valu Time Milk $1.77/gallon… another good deal.  Organic ketchups, dressings, mustard and BBQ sauce- 2/$5… that’s not too bad for organics.  Ritz crackers- $2.99/box… so so price, but add the free box of Wheat Thins coupon from today’s SmartSource… that’s $1.50/box.

Albertsons- Fresh drumsticks or thighs (max pak) .88/lb… that’s a deal! Philadelhia cream cheese, store brand 8oz shredded or block cheese .88!!!!  The .88 deal also includes Albertsons brand cereal… perfect for food bank donations.  And they have double manufacturer coupons this week… Sun, Mon and Tues only on these deals!

Kraft singles are on sale at Safeway for .99 (first 1 w/ coupon) and Haggen for $1.88…

Go to and you can print out a bunch of coupons to make some of those items FREE (or close to it). If you have a Walmart near (I hate that store), they accept coupons too.

Try these sites for good weekly deals:

Also is awesome for weekly grocery/drugstore deals.

If you’re ever looking for a coupon, you can go to to look in their database and they’ll tell you where to find them.

And yes, I’m up at 4:30… time to feed the baby.
Hope all is well on your end.

  2. No meat from ANY “Dollar” store. Period.
