We’re Moved… Finally

(Dontcha LUUUUURVE the shamrock and Celtic Griffin on the front? Um, yeah… those are going. This photo was taken PRIOR to Hubs spending the better part of three days removing moss from the drive and roof.)

We spent the last weekend officially moving into our new house.  The kids are on top of the world. I greeted Hubs after work yesterday with, “Welcome to your new life, we no longer have 5 kids now we have 12”.  It seems that all the neighborhood children have migrated to our house.

There are positives and negatives to the new house…

On the positive side is the proximity to the school and being on a dead end street where the kids can ridge bikes and play safely.

Then there are the negatives, like the two foot wide master bath… seriously.  I used to have a HUGE bathroom with a giant walk in closet, garden tub and separate shower closet.  Now I have a tiny sink/counter, ugly GOLD toilet and a shower whose door hits the toilet when opened.  Woohoo.

But, we do now have almost 700 more square feet then we did at our former home.  That’s another bonus.  Oh, and we have a garage… a double, extra long garage.  Yay.

Then there is the kitchen… it’s like walking into a time machine that takes you straight back to 1969.

We’ve been doing lots of paining and upkeep around here… but we have to bench the major stuff (like bathrooms and kitchen) for later… I’m thinking a three year plan is in order.

Since we’ve never had a housewarming party… we are planning an open house/BBQ for late August to celebrate the new digs and our Anniversary at the same time… since we also got married without inviting anyone. 🙂 We now have a great deck for such gatherings.  I can’t wait!  Maybe we will have several get togethers this summer.
Our Upper/Main Living room AFTER being painted. I still need to get rid of the gold on the fireplace doors and the mauve/pink tiles. The color is MERLOT… cuz who doesn’t like a nice red wine?

View of the entry way/front door from the upper living room. I kind of like the stained glass window, Hubs HATES it… it’s sporting several cracks and other damage so it probably will need to be replaced.
Girls’ Ballet Room… I had such a feeling of peace as I was sitting on the floor, carefully edging in the pink… then about 15 kids started going in and out of the room… some one got hurt… some one yelled at some one else… some one wanted a snack… Peace disturbed.

Close up of the border… isn’t it cute?

You gotta leave the shamrock+Irish stuff up until after St. Patrick’s Day! This coming from your 1/2 Irish friend…
I love the stained glass, it adds character. Do I need to speak with the man of the house about that????
The pink room is so cute! You guys did an awesome job in such a short amount of time! Wow, I am impressed.
Congrats on the new house. Sounds wonderful. The bath and kitchen will come in time. My bath is tiny and it’s a royal pain in the *** but it does what it is supposed to do (until I get a new one that is- I think we are on the 10 year plan).

Yay! Congrats! Love the colors, glad you have moved in, envy the extra space and safe playing area on the street. Enjoy, and don’t worry about that kitchen – 1969 is coming back, dontcha know???

  4. MTAE… you are right, the added space is HUGE and that’s one of the major factors that played into us choosing this house even though our “old” house was only 7 years old and this one is 50 years old! There are so many great things, I need to focus on those and not get bogged down by the work that is waiting!

Meg… he may need some speaking too! 🙂 I’m going to order a custom address plaque to put where the shamrock/griffin reside now, that is on the to do list but will fall behind some other things, like changing the HIDEOUS lights in the hallway.

ASDMommy… 1969 may be coming back, but GAG! Lol… I’m painting the cupboards, walls and changing hardware in the next week or two, the floor may have to wait a little longer. Eventually I will gut the kitchen, but that’s a couple (few, several) years off! I have a built in oven, which I’ve always wanted, but it and the separate range top are circa 1969 as well… *sigh* At least they work, though not sure I can fit a turkey for our family in there!

Love your new home – especially the stained glass window!! Hope you have fun decorating it – not sure I’d want all the extra kids though!!

  7. Congrats on the new home! I love the ballet room. Nicely done and with 15 kids pawing at your ankles, I am IMPRESSED! 🙂
