Additive Free Medicine?

Our family has been additive free for a couple of years now… ever since we discovered that the food additives we took into our bodies were having an obvious negative impact on K3’s health.  So… we removed all food dyes, preservatives and flavors… anything that is artificial.

One of my biggest issues has been with medication.  Every single medication is loaded up with artificial flavor and color.  Good grief.  Is it not enough that my child is sick, but I have to give her something that will make her worse in other ways?  Why oh why.

Our regular ole’ MD actually suggested that I give her regular acetaminophen instead of the kids junk.  I don’t worry about the rare occassion the other kiddos need a pain reliever… but for K3 giving her a pain med hoped up on red dye and flavors is a recipe for disaster.  I am always a little over cautious, so while the Doc said I can give her one tablet… I only gave her half.  Afterall, why give them more medicine than needed?  Lucky for me K3 is a real trooper and at 5 can already swallow pills… so we didn’t have to worry about crushing it and getting her to gag it down.

Now I realize that pills are not without binding agents and the like, but on those rare nights when she cannot sleep and the drops in her ears just don’t cut it, half a tablet and 30 minutes do wonders.

Please, please, please remember to check with your child’s Doctor before giving them medication!  Proper dosing is critical.
