Geeze Oh Pete… are you kidding me?
So… I am hitting ingredient lists to find out where my child might be able to eat if we chose to eat out for a treat. I cannot believe the crap I am finding in foods I thought would be OKAY.
McD’s
Hash Browns:
Potatoes, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, and/or canola oil, natural beef flavor (wheat and milk derivatives)*, citric acid (preservative), salt, dehydrated potato, dextrose, sodium acid pyrophosphate (maintain color), extractives of black pepper, dimethylpolysiloxane (antifoaming agent). Prepared in vegetable oil ((may contain one of the following: Canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, partially hydrogenated corn oil with TBHQ and citric acid added to preserve freshness), dimethylpolysiloxane added as an antifoaming agent). *CONTAINS: WHEAT AND MILK (Natural beef flavor contains hydrolyzed wheat and hydrolyzed milk as starting ingredients.)
French Fries:
Potatoes, vegetable oil (partially hydrogenated soybean oil, natural beef flavor (wheat and milk derivatives)*, citric acid (preservative), dextrose, sodium acid pyrophosphate (maintain color), dimethylpolysiloxane (antifoaming agent)), salt. Prepared in vegetable oil ((may contain one of the following: Canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, partially hydrogenated corn oil with TBHQ and citric acid added to preserve freshness), dimethylpolysiloxane added as an antifoaming agent). *CONTAINS: WHEAT AND MILK (Natural beef flavor contains hydrolyzed wheat and hydrolyzed milk as starting ingredients.)
Even the ketchup has high fructose corn syrup in it!!!! What?
The only things on the menu my child can have are Honey packets (Grade A Pure Honey) and Apple Juice. Loving It.
After reading the ingredient list I don’t think I could stomach putting anything from McD’s in my mouth again. Gross.
At BK… she can have a garden salad with no dressing. Yummy. Just what a 5 year old wants. What is up with the french fries having wheat in them… anyone ever heard of just cutting up a potato? Just a thought.
Interesting… the BK allergy list says that french fries have wheat in them… but the ingredient list doesn’t indicate wheat and it states that french fries are cooked in a french fry only fryer. Weird. I don’t think we shall risk it.
It would be really great to find some places I can take K3 to. I fear no matter where we go that she may have contaminated food… the last thing I want is a sick kid. It could be mild and be behavioral… or a tummy ache or it can be much worse.

The movement toward decreasing and in some states (CA) banning hydrogenated soybean oil in foods is a good trend for the US. When companies stopped using animal fat and replaced it with hydrogenated
plant oil, it was considered a good thing at the time.
Thanks for keeping us informed.
