19 Hours since Diagnosis

KenzieI have learned a lot in the last 19 hours.  At 4PM yesterday, we learned that Kenzie could not have wheat, gluten, gliadin, milk or whey.

My first thought was, “she is going to starve!”.

Since then I have discovered some great things.  Resources, recipes, blogs of other GF families.

The tiny market in town carries these fun little crackers.  They are an Asian variety.  GF. Yay!  And only $1.99.  l have planned to make lunch of Ore-Ida tater tots, with diced chicken breasts and cheddar cheese.  (While Milk and whey free, she is okay with several cheese varieties and yogurt, Thank God for small miracles!).  I have designated a snack drawer for Kenzie friendly after school snacks.  I have shopped for Soy and Rice milk, spent several hours online and looked over the limited selection of GF foods at the Fred Meyer.

Last night found me sitting on the floor in the aisle of the Fred Meyer Nutrition Center, reading bottle after bottle of DHA, Omega 3 and Multi-Vitamin Supplements.

I have learned that Kenzie is one tough 5 year old.  I have learned that I have so much to learn!
